So Queer Bop is this Saturday, and I managed to snag a ticket (it's the sole perk of being entrusted to sell the last fifty tickets), but now I have to think of a costume that's a) scandalous and b) impossibly clever. Last year, I used up Winona Ryder, a power lesbian, Narcissus, and heroin chic, so those are all out of the question. I think scandalous should be easy, but I want something that's witty and racy instead of just straight-up racy.
I like the idea of going as some type of abstraction in feminist or queer theory, so with that in mind, I have a couple of options:
- the body as text and/or the marked category
- penis envy
- scopophilia
- Cartesian dualism
- the lavender menace
The bop's on Saturday, and I have to get shopping that afternoon. Go!!

I think you could have so much fun with 'the body as text'. Rude and clever at the same time...
i tried, unsuccessfully, to help you out. all i could think about was stuffwhitepeoplelike:
The first thing you need to know that white people are the only people on the planet who will dress up as a concept. So while your initial thoughts about a costume might be “cowboy,” “policeman,” or “Count Dracula,” white people are more likely to think “math,” “the economy,” or “Post-Modernism.”
Dressing up as a concept is always a major gamble. On one hand, there is the chance that you nail it just right and everyone in the room will recognize how you not only cleverly interpreted the idea but also executed it perfectly in physical form. If you get it wrong, you will be required to spend the entire night explaining yourself. Then again, it is a good way to get white people to talk to you.
Yeah, I'm hoping that's where just looking trashy takes over. If you're dressed up like an anthropomorphic NAFTA, it sucks if people don't get it. If you're dressed like penis envy, you'll still probably look hot.
